Must the solution always be an exterior protective glazing?

No, not necessarily!

When aspects of conservation ethics and construction physics are taken into account, it can indeed make sense to refrain from the use of an exterior protective glazing.

For instance, when:

• there is a high risk of vandalism (for instance, even in cases of a very high risk of vandalism, to prevent the "regular" destruction of the protective glass pane)
• no risk of damage by condensation moisture on the glazings is present
• the removal of the originals should be avoided while still realising some form of protection
• etc.
