Company History

2009 As a result of the founding of the Rothkegel Glas GmbH, which took over operative business operations as of 1.1.2009, the Rothkegel glass studio with its long tradition was offered all-new opportuinities for further development. For the first time, one of the partners in the company - the graduate conservator Anne Kaiser with a degree from a University of Applied Sciences - is not a member of the family. This is a decisive contribution to enhancing the powers of innovation and preparing to make the company even more competitive at the highest level in the future.
2008 As third in his class at the CCI Würzburg-Schweinfurt, Matthias Rothkegel completes his training programme to become certified as a "Geprüften Technischen Betriebswirt (IHK) / Master Professional of Technical Management (CCI)" and for this receives the Master's Award from the Bavarian state government.
2007 With the the graduate conservator Anne Kaiser, Rothkegel is the first commercial glass factory to hire a conservator with a degree from a University of Applied Sciences - to assure and enhance the quality of the conservation.
2006 The founding of the company Rothkegel Licht GmbH places the independent development of the light-fixture manufactory with its long-standing tradition on a solid foundation in order to be able to embrace the innovative continuing developments in light-fixtures engineering without straying from the roots of custom solutions and craftsmanship. The divisions "Glass Design" and "Glass Conservation" remain with the company Glaswerkstätte Rothkegel e.K..
2005 With Michael Rothkegel's retirement from his active position as of 31.12.2004, the transformation of the Glaswerkstätte & Leuchtenmanufaktur M. Rothkegel OHG to become the Glaswerkstätte & Leuchtenmanufaktur Rothkegel e.K. (with Matthias Rothkegel as the owner) takes place.
As a matter of course, Michael Rothkegel remains available to assist our customers with his extensive expertise and experience.
1999 Relocation of the office to new premises in the Heuchelhof district
1996 Relocation of the glass factory to the Heuchelhof premises
1994 Matthias Rothkegel successfully completes the Master's Exam at the Bundesfachschule des Glaserhandwerks in Hadamar.
1989 Matthias Rothkegel is employed as a journeyman at his parents' company and is actively involved in the newly built light-fixtures manufactory at Heuchelhof
1986 Beginning of the apprenticeship for Michael Rothkegel's son Matthias (b. 1969) at his parents' company
1978 Beginning of serial light-fixtures production and takeover of operations by Michael Rothkegel
1976 Construction of windows using the inlay technique - for the Hedwigskathedrale in Berlin, according to designs by Carl Clobes († 1996)
1972 Michael Rothkegel becomes a partner in the company
1960 Michael Rothkegel attends the master school and begins his work at his parents' company
1953 Johannes Rothkegel's son Michael (b. 1938) begins his professional training in Braunschweig

1947 Move to Würzburg following his release from captivity as a POW and a short stint in Brunswick as a glazier
1941-1945 Johannes Rothkegel's deployment in WWII and captivity
1934 Johannes Rothkegel establishes his own company in Oppeln
1925-1934 After Johannes Rothkegel had worked for one year as a journeyman at his parents' company, he began his years of travel in Dresden, Quedlinburg and Cologne.
1919 Beginning of the apprenticeship for Hermann Rothkegel's son Johannes (b. 1905, d. 1994) at his parents' company in Falkenberg, followed by an apprenticeship outside his parents' company (until 1923).
1896 Thomas Rothkegel's son Hermann (b. 1869, d. 1945) attends the master school in Breslau.
1880 Beginning of operations as a glass factory by Thomas Rothkegel (b. 1840, d. 1911) in Falkenberg (Silesia)
